GR 65 Cornet Mouthpiece

Overview
ProZone Insight

GR Cornet Mouthpiece Backbores are balanced with each cup volume to produce a characteristic cornet sound with precise intonation.

Choosing a GR Cornet Mouthpiece is quick and easy.

1. Choose a rim contour.

GR Cornet contours are exactly the same as their trumpet mouthpiece counterparts to accommodate easy switching between horns.

2. Choose a cup diameter.

Standard GR Cornet cup diameters are the same as their trumpet mouthpiece counterparts. This makes switching between trumpet and cornet playing effortless.

3. Choose a GR Cornet Cup from the options below.

GR Cornet Cups

#1. This versatile cornet cup is brighter and almost trumpet like. The throat entrance is more open than a standard Bb mouthpiece. This cup is used for marching band, brass band Eb soprano work, Dixie/jazz and demanding solo work. The upper register is efficient and brilliant. Medium Low Alpha angle.

#2. This cornet cup is an excellent compromise with crisp articulations and an excellent upper register. This cup has a larger throat entrance than the GR #1 cornet cup and will blow more open. A very popular cup for solo work, brass band Eb soprano work, and Dixie/jazz work. The upper register is very efficient, crisp, and clear. Medium Low Alpha Angle.

#3. Our most popular cornet cup. Excellent characteristic sound without sacrificing range or flexibilities. A deeper cup and more open throat entrance than the GR #1 or #2 Cornet cups. Used for all musical situations. Medium Alpha Angle.

#5. Big sound that can be mellow or loud. This cup is not as deep as the GR #3 Cornet cup, although, the throat entrance is more open. This cup can tolerate a lot of lip engagement. Above high C can be more work. An excellent brass band mouthpiece. Medium Alpha Angle.

#6. Very big and powerful with the ability to color the sound to play soft and pretty. Ideal for brass bands and solo cornet work. This mouthpiece has the same depth as the GR #3 Cornet cup but the throat entrance is more open like the GR Cornet #5. This mouthpiece has a unique cup shape and is a compromise between the traditional C cup shape and deep V cup shape. Requires strong chops for the upper register. The sound is a full beautiful mellow timbre with good intonation throughout the horn. Medium Alpha Angle with ample chop room.

#7. Big sound that can be mellow or loud. This cup is deeper than the GR #3 and #6 Cornet cups, furthermore, the throat entrance is more open. This cup can tolerate a lot of lip engagement. The cup volume is massive and similar to the older traditional cornet cups, although, GR has put the math to this cup and corrected many of the difficult playing issues. This cup features improved intonation, accuracy, upper register and articulation over other traditional designs popular today without a compromise to sound. Above high C can be more work. Very popular with the "British" style brass band players. The throat bore is larger than GR Cornet Cups #1-#6. Medium Alpha Angle with ample chop room.

#8. You asked for big...You got it! This very large volume cup has proven to be very popular with the "British Style" Brass Band players. The #8 cup will provide the strong player a huge traditional Brass Band sound with power to spare. Larger than the #7 cup with improved intonation, slotting, and accuracy over "traditional" Brass Band mouthpieces of the past. This model can be more work but the benefits of the larger cup volume will be worth the effort for strong players. Medium Alpha Angle with ample chop room.
